What is Bass Music?
Bass Music is an umbrella term for a wide array of styles of underground electronic dance music. Much of what falls under this umbrella term stems from the UK underground dance music scene, rave culture (or underground parties), and pirate radio. The musical origins of this scene stem from Acid House at the end of the 1980′s and spawned an ever evolving thread of percussive, bass-laden sounds, from UK Hardcore / Breakbeat Hardcore, to Jungle, DrumnBass, the spectrum UK Garage sounds, to Grime, Dubstep, and UK Funky.
Global Bass Music refers to all of this as well as musical styles around the world that have either been influenced by or had an influence on this continuum of sound. Indian and Pakistani Bhangra, Chicago Juke and Footwork and the Tropical Bass spectrum among others.
Tropical Bass includes sounds like Central American Baile Funk and Moombahton, which originated in the United States but combines Reggaeton (itself a combination of Reggae and Hispanic cultures) and down-tempo House music. There are also other many smaller or lesser known micro genre’s from warmer climates that fall under this term.
