blog to the old skool

Pete Dev/Null’s latest Old Skool Jungle/’Aardcore mashup from his weekly online broadcast.

Listen and Download here…

Here’s the show from last Sunday… this one was an all 10″ record special, so obviously all vinyl. Lots of bigger tunes in this/remixes of big tunes, thanks to the fantastic 10″ output of labels like Moving Shadow. Apologies for the dumb computer voice shout outs, the mic input on my mixer is still broken but the chat was pretty lively and people were asking for shouts so I obliged the only way I could!

Tango Interview

tango

So, are you originally from Leicester?
No, originally from Kent. Born in Bromley, brought up in South East London, Lewishsam; then moved to Berkshire and then Kent. I’ve been living in the midlands since 1985.

How did you get involved in the Hardcore and Rave scene?
I was already producing Hip Hop type stuff anyway. Then a mate of mine took me out to Shelly’s in Stoke-on-Trent. And that was that basically.

When was that?
1991 or ’92 I think.

So you were producing music before you were raving?
Yeah, yeah. I’ve been messing around with stuff since about ‘88 or ’89.

What inspired you to get into production in the first place?
Into production? My Dad’s a musician. He was an acoustic guitarist. He had stuff like a keyboard and sequencer and I kind of got into it from there.

So no background in Soundsystems in London then?
No, I was a DJ even before that anyway, I just used to play Hip Hop. But with my Dad still having all that musical equipment around, I wanted to have a go with it and went from there really.

Uncle Dugs interviews Goldie

Uncle Dugs Interviews Goldie

Uncle Dugs’ Rinse FM show is perhaps the last radio slot dedicated to old skool drum and bass currently riding the airwaves, his shows have become known for the relaxed but in-depth interviews from some of the genres biggest names.
To date he has spoken at length to the likes of Nookie, Slipmatt, A Guy Called Gerald, and Kool FM founder Eastman.

This interview is probably the most fascinating, and it would be, as the interviewee is arguably jungle’s most interesting and enduring character, Clifford Joseph Price.

This three hour interview takes you from practically the birth of Goldie, to present day, and almost everything in between.

Blog to the Oldskool Radio 8/1/2012 + Imaginary Forces mix

Thursday, August 30th, 2012
blogtotheoldskool

Last wednesday’s show was fun as usual… nice guest mix by Imaginary Forces featuring all his favorite Pirate Radio jams 91-93. Following that, I did a little over an hour of 91 tracks mixed with 80′s & 90′s house. Rather than posting as one giant mp3, I’m breaking it up into the component parts, this way each piece is more easily downloadable (and higher bitrate).
Imaginary Forces – Straight from the Bedroom 91 – 93…

First-Ever Mixer and Crossfader Dates Back Over a Century

original

Technically this should be tagged as “Older than old skool!”

In 1910, the French engineer Leon Gaumant demonstrated his sound-and-film synchronizing Chronophone system at the Gaumant Palace—a 5,500 seat reconstruction of the Hippodrome, which was at the time Europe’s largest movie theatre—in Paris, FR.

At the time, moving pictures with synchronized sound were limited in length by the playing time of a gramophone records—the longest was 200ft, at 16 frames-per-second.
