Music is a celebration -- an expression of the human spirit. Being the first-born son of Trinidad and Tobago immigrants, my musical tastes have always been a bit eclectic. A steady diet of calypso, reggae, soca and steel drums ensured my musical diversity. During my youth, I was an accomplished trombone player. I always tried to learn other instruments, but I was never really satisfied with my development. Musically speaking, I was always searching for something else; never really finding what I was looking for.

Enter 88.9, WEAA-FM. Morgan State University radio, birth place of my musical awakening. I was in 8th grade, dateline - 1990. I would sit in my room and hit the record button on the tape deck and the sounds of DJ Pope and DJ Oji would fill my ears with soulful House Music every Saturday night from 8PM to 12AM. To these ears,

the ‘Brothers in the Struggle’ (Pope & Oji) were larger than life. Nothing could be better. Barbara Tucker, Todd Terry, Frankie Knuckles, Martha Wash (from the Weathergirls), Masters at Work -- all new to me.

I needed something more....92.3. Baltimore Club music. I never gave up on 88.9, but 92.3 was the new girlfriend. The shiny new bike under the Christmas tree. Club music was my new love. Frank Ski, Shawn Caesar, Mark Henry, DJ Technics and DJ Shawn Marshall were making moves on the dance floor and moves with the music. Then came DJ Boobie. (If you’re from Baltimore, you know you have a DJ Boobie tape.) I remember it like yesterday. Summer of my freshman year of high school, hanging out with friends, walking around the Reisterstown Road Plaza. I walked into a store called Metro II. I looked around and all I could see was vinyl. A slender man with glasses was working the register. What I heard next was all I needed. “Stay” by ‘Jodeci’ mixed with a club beat called ‘Sports Bar’. Then came ‘Brighter Days’ by Cajmere. Right then and there, I knew I wanted to spin. I wanted to spin what DJ Boobie was spinning. I wanted to cut like him. I only wish I could be half as good. I saved up some cash and I bought one of those DJ in a box kits. I was terrible at first, but I didn’t care. I had turntables and I had records. I was the man. I was living the dream. I would spend my last dollar for a new record, but after about 4 years; I lost a love for the music. There wasn't a progression in the music.  I didn’t want to spin house, so I decided to give up the tables.

I still had a love for music, but not a love for spinning. I knew I’d come back, I just wasn’t sure when. You know you truly love something when you let it go and you come back to it. About 3 years ago, a friend of mine decided to spin. He asked me to show him some things and I hopped on his tables, just for grins and giggles. I grabbed two records and it was like I never left; easier than breathing. I knew I had to come back, but I couldn’t spin Baltimore Club. I needed something new.
Enter UK Garage. A couple of months after the ‘hiatus’, I was listening to 2 cd set called ‘Pure Garage’ by “Masterstepz”. The first track was ‘Little Man by Sia (Exemen remix).” I was hooked. The last time I felt this strongly about music was the first time I saw Boobie spin. I knew I had to move in this direction. I began my search over the net for records. I started buying, then getting exclusive cuts from the biggest producers in the Dubstep scene. I've been hooked on Dubstep ever since.....this is what I was meant to spin.
