Twizla Rootz

Twizla Rootz was born and raised in London, Ontario, Canada he started in the music game as a dancer, then an MC in a group called Black Reality with beats produced by DJ Capital J before he was Toronto's Drum n Bass badbwoy. He then moved on to MCing for Capital J at raves like Cosmic 95 and various other raves around the surronding area. Watching J tear up raves inspired Twizla to become a DJ and in 94' he started a reggae sound called Starkade Exclusive with heavy dubs and big boy affiliates.

Twizla at an early age was playing alongside some of Reggae's biggest: Bounty Killa, Elephant Man, Bodyguard, Sugar Minott, Gregory Issac and Stone Love just to name a few.

In 97' creative diffferences caused Twizla Rootz to leave Starkade
and look a next sound to work with, before long Johnny Dread and Nyhabinghi Sound had picked Twizla and started a mixtape series of Reggae, Hip-Hop and RnB hits with AFRICAN PRIDE, RED LIGHT SPECIAL and WORLD RED that went worldwide on an underground tip. In 2001 Nyhabinghi changes the name to Binghi FM, they are booked in Georgetown, Guyana S.A. for Mash Ramani festivites at the National Gymnasium with Stone Love. The vibe is hot but Twizla Rootz is not feeling the dancehall scene like he used to due to a trip made in 99' to London, England where Twizla was infected with a sound called UK Garage. Later in the year of 2001 Twizla Rootz meets Rossi B and Luca at The Mint Nightclub in London,ON they tear the place down and Twizla is hooked.

By 2003, Twizla Rootz was fully promoting UK Garage / Grime to the masses making radio appearances (CHRW 94.9) and promoting a sunday night residency called SKYY SUNDAYS at Old City Hall with DnB badgirl DJ Deception. Twizla hooked up with Dizze Rascal in 2003 and DJ Slimzee "THE DUBPLATE FARDA" at the Dizzee concert in toronto gave them his mix CD in exchange for 2 tracks from Slimzee's label. This fuelled the fire that burns as we speak today inside the grimey soul of Twizla Rootz.

Currently Twizla Rootz is working on doing a Grime mix CD featuring the Boy Better Know camp and has a residency every Wednesday called URBAN TAKEOVER with DJ Everfresh (DrumnBass) and DJ Busdriver (Grime / Hip-Hop) and also a monthly residency called GRIME IZ featuring Grime and Dubstep acts from around Canada.
