Team Shadetek is Matt and Zach Shadetek. Growing up in downtown Manhattan the two knew one another off and on until running into each other on the block one afternoon in 1999 and discovering their shared interest in making 'wierd beats' In the following years they produced a series of acclaimed 7" and 12" records for their own Shadetek label and begun to tour, drawing the attention of the respected Warp Records in London. In 2004 Warp released Burnerism, an 8 track mini LP of experimental Hip-Hop instrumentals.
Never content to remain on one idea for too long in this period they also released two split 12"s for kid606's experimental dancehall label Shockout, with veterans Red Dragon and Wayne Lonesome on the mic and versions from Drop The Lime and DJ /Rupture. They also recorded a mixtape for kid606's Violent Turd label entitled "WSHT: Shadetek Radio Mix" which saw them mashing up Hip-Hop, experimental electronics, DrumnBass and Noise.
A number of internet and radio mixes have filled the gap since then including their two warpmixes and Matt Shadetek's "Move With The Bass" for Resonance FM, available for free download. Recently Matt has also contributed guest production to two tracks for Berlin local heroes Modeselektor's debut album "Hello Mum". In late 2004 the pair developed an interest in the new Grime style of beats and rapping from London. This lead to the highly successful series of parties in NYC called Bangers & Mash, promoted with Drop The Lime and Vice Records, which included showcases by UK and american artists. During the same period Matt Shadetek collaborated with DJ Sheen to produce "Heavy Meckle", a critically acclaimed grime DJ mix featuring Jammer, Ears and Neckle Camp which released on Shadetek Records in Feb. 2006. Their new album Pale Fire will release Spring 2006 on Brooklyn's Sound-Ink Records.
Matt and Zach have been working on Pale Fire since the delivery of Burnerism, recording tracks in Modeselektor's Berlin studio and their own SHTbox studio in New York over the last two years. The record is the first to encompass the full breadth of their influences and interests including Hip-Hop, Grime, Dancehall, instrumental weirdness and things in between. They've enlisted over 14 different rappers and singers for the project, choosing to work primarily with friends and lesser known artists rather than buying features from big names. 77Klash is one notable guest, a dancehall MC and producer based in Brooklyn known for his production of last years No. 1 Jamaican hit 'Notorious' for Turbulence, he has contributed the vocals along with singer Jahdan for "Brooklyn Anthem" the first single for Pale Fire which was featured on DJ Green Lantern's "Team Invasion" mix CD. Skepta and Jammer are also worth mentioning, two of the fastest rising stars in the Grime scene both producing and rapping. They each have contributed a vocal to the album while Matt will release a solo 12" of instrumentals for Jammer's Jahmek The World label this year as well.
Shadetek are constantly performing and DJing all over Europe and the USA. They are available for bookings through The Planet Rock agency in Berlin. Matt currently resides most of the year in Berlin while Zach continues to live in NYC. They will be on tour together this year to promote Pale Fire.
