The formation and rise of the Dallas DrumnBass scene had sparked something within the DJ then known as Soulfonik, who later changed his name to Keith P. The sound was fresh and full of energy. Keith P, long being a hip-hop head found a fascination within this new form of urban dance music. He developed the foundations of being a DJ in spinning this genre, but it soon seemed something was lacking in DrumnBass. He had felt DrumnBass had become somewhat stagnant. All the while he could see it being uprooted from its true roots as well. Keith P had come across a sound that he'd heard here and there. It was called 2-Step / UK Garage.
He had found the sound ear catching and and could hear elements within the music he gravitated towards. From that point on his dedication to Garage was full on. A month later an acquaintance (The Logic Theorist) had secured a club for the first UK Garage weekly in Dallas. The night was named Funkdays and consisted of, The Logic Theorist, Phooka, The Dane, and SoulFonik aka Keith P. Funkdays carried on successfully for two years. Keith P landed consistent bookings at nights which catered to Garage. He had played alongside the likes of Emma Feline, Abstract, and a long list of UK and US big name DJs.
Keith P has also taken part in another UK Garage weekly, named Po$h. He had played alongside DJ Jobe, and Eric B while the night had continued for about a year. Sadly Po$h has ended but his love for garage has not. He has not given up on the sound and presently wishes to develop new nights and bring more UK talent to Dallas. Within this time he has seen his credential as a DJ take an even firmer hold within the UK Garage community both local and abroad. Keith has recorded a long list of Mix cds. The most recent of which being one entitled "The Stateside Connection." Presently Keith is devoting his attention towards the sound of Grime. An offshoot of UK Garage and a relatively new form of music. He is working with UK Grime artists on helping to push this sound stateside and welcomes any and all cooperation from fellow DJ's and Promoters to do so. What the future will bring for UK Garage / Grime is anyone's guess, but with a big surge of popularity for artists such as Dizzee Rascal, Wiley and Roll Deep, Plasticman, Kano, Davinche etc. he sees nothing but growth ahead for Grime in Texas.
