The Unexpected Moment.
There is that moment, when motion, the smell, the arc of the lights, the mood of the people around you, the drinks, and bassline, everything just fits. It's the crux, it's the apex of not just necessarily the evening, of that moment when you are walking down the streets, or in the drivers seat, or kickin' it at your spot, time when the music is just it, is just right, so perfect that it all crystallizes and meshes, as that YEAH MAN moment the bass hits and it's right.

That is the moment that DJ Senyo in habits, and his sound exists within. Punctuated by the bass drop, Senyo's musical background is the perfect setup for his current pallet of UK Underground Garage, Subsonic beats, and Dancehall flavored riddims.
Born in Ghana, raised in Washington, DC, and educated in Montreal, Canada, exposure has been the name of his game since birth.
"I've gone from High Life, to Soul and R&B, Go-Go, classic Reggae, backpacked through Hip-Hop, to Disco and classic House, had my Junglist stage, and pretty much settled with UK Garage, while still referencing and respecting all of those things."
Growing up, Reggae and High Life, alongside fifties Soul and RnB were the sounds his parents listened to. In Washington, DC in the late eighties and early nineties, Pop, Hip-Hop, and Rock were the steady musical diet Senyo fed himself on musically.
It was the 2-Step and 4x4 UK Garage sounds which caught and blazed Senyo's ears in the late nineties while at school in Montreal. Having difficulty finding CDs at times, the internet played a major part in exposing Brian to the sounds being defined in London. Crediting Interface Pirate Radio and gaialive.com as major sources, Senyo would spend hours listening to sets from pirate style show being transmitted around the world from these web sites.
With no night catering to the sounds he was falling in love with, Senyo became one of the first DJ's to champion UK Garage in Montreal, and among the first in Canada.
"I credit Dr. Love of Inbeat Music (WWW.INBEATMUSIC.COM), Rinseit Promotions Deepsix (WWW.RINSEIT.CA) the Flirt Crew of Toronto, and Wiggle Cru in Vancouver as the being the first collectives on the scene with the sound in North America. I jumped into the game to keep pushing and representing the vibrant sound and scene."
In doing this, Senyo, alongside DJ Lexis started one of Canada's first strictly UK Garage internet radio broadcast, SteadyVibe'n, on the now defunct sweet-ting.com. 2 hours of pure "Garridge", each wednesday night, came pouring out of sweet-ting's industrial St. Henri loft space.
After 2 years of supporting the sound in Montreal, Senyo made a move to Boston, Massachusetts, and joined up with DJ/Producer G Notorious, and DJs Jam-2 and Elyte as part of the SoulChampion Crew. As one of the 4 UK Garage residents at Runnin Fridays, Senyo was part of a weekly focal point of the Northeast underground club scene.
Senyo continues to develop and champion the UK Underground Garage sound that has hit new peaks of creativity with the 4x4 revival and ever expanding MC driven "Grime" sound, as part of Darqsyde with DJ Jam-2, as well as a member of SoulChampion
"Genre names, especially given the british proclivity to separate and categorize sounds and scenes into bite sized groups, is really not the issue. It's all about the vibes and sounds. That's why I'm just as likely to mix 4x4 with Grimey beats, just as long as that bass influenced thread is there to connect it all. Given the music industry in the post mp3 era, I think it is great that we can have access and unify so many different vibes and sounds together, and really continue to spread and promote it. I'm doing it all just to hit that moment when we go "that's it!, that's the vibe, that's the moment there, that right"!
