Blazing trails across the Great White North and turning heads all over the globe, DeepSix is a critically acclaimed DJ, Producer, and radio personality. Constantly making his mark on the Canadian club scene, DeepSix is dedicated to pushing the UK Garage vibe and is helping to lead the charge by example. With releases on vinyl, CD, countless mixes available, and his radio show, DeepSix wants to ensure that UK Garage becomes a household name in North America.
Monthly residencies in Kingston ("Platinum Saturdays" at Stages Nightclub), Toronto ("We Don't Suck" at The Labyrinth Lounge), a multitude of appearances across the province (including London, Guelph, Ottawa, and Hamilton), and slots at the prestigious World Electronic Music Festival (WEMF) are the bread and butter of this road-warrior. Highlights of his travels so far include Dallas, Texas for the 2004 GARAGE CONFERENCE and Winnipeg, Manitoba (in December, even!). In 2005, DeepSix has his sights set on the West Coast of Canada, the United Arab Emirates, and the Mecca of UK Garage – London, UK. And while he would have loved to play his slots at the Winter Music Conference in Miami, INS has never taken a liking to our intrepid young hero.
DeepSix tends to favor the bumpin' and funkin' 4x4 UK Garage styles and is Canada's representative for DJ Lico's L2 RECORDINGS, always vibing up the joint with vocal licks, RnB mash ups and a cappella flows. His widely successful "Booty Pimpin Vol. 1" mix series opened eyes, ears, and minds to the urban flavas of UK Garage.
But don't judge a book by the cover as DeepSix has been known to drop it like it's Grimey as Canada's member of the Sublow originators, Jon E Cash's Black Ops Crew. And for when he feels like getting dubwise pon de decks, he has also been known to blow the woofers out for the Dubstep massive alongside such heavyweights as Kode 9. DeepSix has also played with some of the best up-and-coming DJs the UK has to offer - Rossi B and Luca.
On the production tip, DeepSix has been a purveyor of fine UK Garage beats for some time. As the shorter half of GeeSixCru (with Boston's G NOTORIOUS), he has released "Brown Suga" on DJ INANNA's Funky Soul Music label. DJ COOPER'S "TRANSATLANTIC BASS" compilation on URBAN RENEWAL is home to GeeSixCru's "Ride This One" and DeepSix’ "Tactical". In the near future, expect more beats from this ruffneck riddim murderer with his partners in crime Richniques, Delfino, and Bad Man Gigz (AKA The Peppa Crew). Also, keep your ears to the underground for new GeeSixCru material as well as some other collaborations that are, as they say, on the down low at the mo.
DeepSix has a long history of bringing the beats to the streets via radio and internet. Rinse It Presents recently ended a 2 year run. One of the crowning achievements in DeepSix’ short career as a DJ (it’s really only been 6 years) has been his residency as host of "The Urban Groove" program which aired Monday nights/Tuesday mornings on 100.7 FM in Toronto, 97.9 FM in Ottawa, Channel 827 on StarChoice Satellite Service and on the web. For over a year, DeepSix and co-host Richniques played the best UK House and Garage and Soulful House that North American commercial airwaves have to offer. From soulful and funky House to bassline rollers to the latest heat-from-the-street Grime, DeepSix mixed it all in a jam-packed show always leaving the listeners calling in for more. They developed a loyal following and expanded the horizons of the genre by tenfold during their year-long tenure. Sadly, due to the format not fitting with the station's plans for "future development", DeepSix is currently looking for a new station to bring the vibe to.
DeepSix also contributes to the press as much as possible, writing reviews for XLR8R and EARPLUG magazines. Also, as a week contributor to SPIN CANADA's national club music charts, his goal is to establish UK Garage in the national market as a viable and sought after genre for DJs and clubbers alike.
