DJ S.K.T. – The Revolution EP

Wednesday, September 12th, 2012

New EP in a decidedly House direction from UK Garage stalwart DJ SKT. Four distinctly different tunes with influences reaching from Deep, Chicago, and Tech among others. My personal favorite on this release is Raveties. Great mood with a soca-esque, subtle but simultaneously anthemic, synth lead. Uplifting and nostalgic at the same time. Forthcoming on Up-Tempo Records on October 1, 2012.

ALEX D££MNDS – “Credentials” EP Review

ALEX D££MNDS drops a three tracker on Switched On. “Credentials” starts this one off with a syncopated, sort of trancey (but in a good way) synth pattern over a solid rhythmic backdrop. Nice contrast of shuffley snare drums over a solid 4×4 bass with some King of New York Samples interspersed throughout. My personal favorite on this ep. This one went straight into my “Bangers” Serato “crate”.

“Pressure” (Deemnds Olympus mix) picks up with a more neural approach, starting with a wash of synth voices which leads into vamping synths over a minimalist 4×4 beat grounded by powerful subs. This one needs to be heard on a system with subs to truly be appreciated.

Track three, “Baidin’” is the mellowest with sparse organ stabs over a beautiful brushed snare shuffle. Some chilled out space-jazz style house music here!

Grievous Angel – “Kleer” / J Beatz – “Subwoofer” (Grievous Angel remix) Review

Two bits of fire coming from Forefront Recordings! Grievous Angel kicks this one off with the spacey, heavyweight “Kleer”. Siren-like synths warble in and out over choppy syncopated snares and bursting sub-label bass. Definitely a dancefloor killer.

Flip for Grievous Angel’s remix of J Beat’s “Subwoofer”. This one rolls in with a percussive wash of steppy, staccato snare drums, builds over a sub tone, and then climaxes into a descending warp bass reminiscent of the heyday of Hardstep Jungle. Solid 4×4 number that simultaneously conjures references to some of the best years of Jungle and and 2-Step Garage at the same time.
